Three Big Cheers for Gold Award Girl Scouts

We are so proud of our Gold Award Girl Scouts that we want to shout it from the rooftops! The accomplished young women who earned the prestigious Girl Scout Gold Award in 2009 have reached the pinnacle of Girl Scout success. The Gold Award on a college application or a resume is proof that a girl possesses extraordinary values and leadership skills.

The Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest of the three national Girl Scout leadership awards. Starting as early as grade 4, Girl Scouts can start working toward their Bronze Awards. As the girls move into the higher grades, the requirements for the Silver Award (grades 6 – 8) and then the Gold Award (grades 9 -12) become progressively challenging.

Earning the Gold Award requires a very high degree of leadership, organizational and networking skills, and a strong commitment to community service. Across the entire nation, only about 5% of eligible Girl Scouts complete the Gold Award requirements each year, and the girls who earn it join a very exclusive group of impressive women. For these reasons Gold Award recipients are given greater consideration for acceptance and scholarships at colleges and universities and advanced entry into military service.

The Impact is Huge.
This past year, Orange County Gold Award Girl Scouts contributed a combined total of nearly 11,500 community service hours addressing such critical issues as hunger, homelessness, disabilities, the environment and education in their communities and beyond. The world is truly a better place because of them.

With nearly 25,000 Girl Scouts in Orange County and millions more across the nation, just imagine what a difference it would make if every Girl Scout decided to go for the “gold.” The impact would be phenomenal.

Sincerely,

Nancy Nygren
