Girl Scout Leadership Awards
Girl Scouts are eligible to earn three national Girl Scout leadership Awards - Bronze, Silver and Gold.
The Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest leadership award that Girl Scouts can earn. Gold Award candidates in grades 9 - 12 must design and carry out a significant service project that makes a lasting impact in the community. To complete the award’s rigorous requirements, a Girl Scout must possess outstanding skills in leadership, organization and networking.
Girls who earn the prestigious Girl scout Gold Award are highly esteemed by their peers and the community. They receive special consideration for college/university acceptance, consideration for scholarships and advanced entry into military service.
Earning the Leadership Awards
In August 2009, Girl Scouts of the USA releasd new guidelines for earning the Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards. Girl Scouts in Orange County are not required to begin using the new guidelines until October 1, 2011.
During this transition phase, some candidates may choose to follow the new guidelines called the "Journey Path." Other candidates may choose to continue using the original guidelines, called "Go For It."
